End of September

We had a lovely weekend in Pennsylvania visiting Ron's daughter and her family. They're fun people, and a really great family. Their location is such that the trees have turned quite a bit. It was beautiful: reds, yellows and oranges. Saturday we saw all three kids play soccer. Sunday it rained all day, and after a quick trip to Wal-Mart, we stayed inside reading, snoozing and watching football, except for a quick walk I took with two of the kids.

The work on the roof continues.
I like the color of the new shingles and the men appear to be doing a good job.

Now it's a return to a normal week
. Tomorrow is an Ember day. I miss her and can't wait to see her tomorrow. She was exactly 2-1/2 years old on Saturday. I bought new Play-Doh while away this weekend, complete with rolling pin, cookie cutter type cut outs and other things to use with the Play-Doh.

Exercise -
The only thing I did over the weekend was walk with two of the kids in Pennsylvania down the dirt road on which they live.

Weather -
It's been cloudy, damp and sometimes rainy the past three days.

Will We Have Heat?

Yepper... we will have heat and probably soon. It's been a lovely September. Lots of sun and warm temps, but that's about to change and at the same time, Ron should have the new furnace up and running. Each day that goes by where we don't need heat means less money in the pockets of those supplying the source for the heat.

Monday was a busy day for Ron and me. It was an Albany day, with a trip to the urologist, St. Peter's for blood work, lunch, a stop at PetSmart, then to Selkirk to get supplies for the furnace installation.

Blood work from Monday showed Ron's creatinine went down a bit, but it was probably due to the cystocopy done at the urologist's office just prior to the blood draw.

Yesterday was an Ember day. We went to the New York State Museum in down town Albany. Most, if not all, of the exhibits are over her head in that she has no idea their significance, but there are a lot of things of interest to a little one, such as the children's discovery center, the exhibits of the Adirondacks with the bears and other animals, and the wonderful exhibit of birds. Wanna see it? Go here..... http://www.nysm.nysed.gov/

And today is mid-week day: Wednesday. I've been running errands already and will soon go to the library, recycling and to the dumpster. I've got a few chores to do around here and the rest of the day will be mine. Ron will help out at the Elks tonight so I've got most of the evening to myself.

Exercise - I have been consistent about doing something every day and the positive benefits are obvious. My jeans have lost their tightness and overall I feel better most days.

Today's weather - Again another beautiful day. Temps supposed to go into high 60s/low 70s. It's really a pretty day.

Last Day of Summer

Fall officially starts tomorrow afternoon. It seems as if spring was a long time ago, and it was...... six months! September has been kind weather wise. We've had a lot of sun and fairly warm temps. The house, though, is cold. It's nice mid-July when it's 90 outside and 70 inside, but it's unpleasant when it's 60 outside and 65 inside.

Ron's been diligently working on installation of the new furnace. With any luck, it will be up and running by the end of this week. It's cold in the morning when we get up -- about 58 degrees the past two mornings -- but not heating the house is saving us money.

I saw Cara, my Little Sister, yesterday. I saw her last in June. That's way too long between visits. We went to the annual back-to-school picnic sponsored by BBBSCR, but stayed only about half an hour. It was boring. We took a ride up to Clifton Park and bought some apples; then headed to Burnt Hills to Fo Castle Farm and got some cider donuts. Yummy!!

Today has been a relaxing day. I did a few chores around the house, gave Ron a hand with the furnace installation and bought paint for this autumn's painting project downstairs. I decided I didn't want to go to Elsie's for dinner so sent Ron on his way with my regrets.

Gas prices - I filled up in Rexford yesterday at $3.679 a gallon. That's much cheaper than down here in Greenville.

Exercise - I've been doing a lot of exercise: walking in the cemetery and/or a Leslie Sansone walking DVD. I can tell the difference in how my jeans fit because of the exercise, though I've not lost a single pound.

Today's weather - Yesterday was a PERFECT near-autumn day. Bright sun; blue sky; low 70s for temp. It was sunny for about half of today as well as warm and humid.

Life changes - The old feelings and habits continue to knock at my door with regard to wanting to do what I want to do, within reason, but not hurting feelings. I know Ron prefers I go with him to Elsie's for dinner, but for the past few weeks, I haven't wanted to go. Today I gave myself "permission" to do what I wanted to do. It's a change that I have difficulty implementing.

Chilly Friday

Busy busy busy and a lack of desire to compose. The past eight days included having Em down here for an overnight last Thursday into Friday. Pictures below show her playing in the dirt and mess created by the installation of the 500-gallon propane gas tank. She had a ball!

Monday I had Ember again, at her house.

Tuesday Ron and I went to the nutritionist at the nephrologist’s office. Ron’s kidney function is decreasing rapidly, and he’s now on a diet that restricts protein. He’s being mostly successful at keeping protein to no more than 60 grams a day. That may sound like a lot, but an ounce of meat has 7 grams of protein, which means a simple 4-ounce hamburger with roll (another 4 grams of protein) is more than half a daily allotment of protein. He’s given up cheese and milk and cut way back on the amount of meat he eats. It all kind of sucks, but less protein eases the burden on his kidneys of disposing of the waste.

Wednesday was a “free” day for me. I never left the house. What a joy!!! I did some cleaning. I puttered around. I did laundry. I ironed. I read. I played computer games. I exercised.

Thursday was an Ember day.

Today is Friday. I’m home but it’s a big cleaning day and errand day. There’s the bank, the store, recycling and a hair cut. This afternoon we’re going to Schoharie to see the soccer game of one of Ron’s grandkids.

Tomorrow I’m picking up Cara and we’ll go the annual Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region picnic. I haven’t seen Cara since June and as usual am feeling guilty about it.

Next week…. Ohmygoddddd.. next week is so busy I get tense thinking about it.

Monday Ron sees the urologist.

Tuesday I have Ember

Wednesday Ron sees the cardiologist.

Thursday I have Ember

Friday I have a dentist appointment to attend to a tooth I broke last weekend.

Saturday the 27th, we’re going to Pennsylvania to visit Ron’s daughter and her family. We’ll return Monday the 29th and then the very next day is an Ember day for me.

I am exhausted in advance thinking about it.

Cute Ember saying: While sitting at the table after lunch on Tuesday at Em’s house, the doorbell rings and Ember says, “Pizza’s here, Grandma!” LOL

Yesterday when Tony picked her up after work he asked, “How was your day, Em?” She replied, “I had a bad day. I hit Grandma and she got really mad at me. I said I was sowwy.” And indeed she did have a moment or two in the morning when she as very naughty. It was time to leave the playground at The Crossings in Colonie, and Em did not want to go. Oh wellll….had to go anyway, and in her anger, she started flailing around, the result being she did hit me. I had to drag her to the car, crying and protesting very loudly. It was unpleasant.

Gotta get back to work. The vacuum cleaner is calling me.

Gas prices - They're on the rise. :--(

Exercise - I've been doing a lot with Leslie Sansone walking DVDs and can tell the difference in how my jeans fit.

Today's weather - It's chilly today but sunny. Summer is definitely over, though we may still have temps in the low 70s next week.

Life changes - Ron and I go along feeling good about his health and then we're hit over the head with the reminder that his kidneys are failing. Dialysis is looming on the horizon and that surely will be a life change.

Rainy Day

We were up early to (1) get my car to the garage in Albany for its first service since leasing and (2) get Ron to a doc appointment by 8:45. After the doc appointment, we went to breakfast. I was very disappointed. Usually the Gateway Diner makes good omlettes. This one was not good at all. Hardly any cheese and they put onions in it!! Yucky!!! The good thing is I didn't eat much of it. LOL

When all necessary stuff was done, Ron went home and I went to Colonie Center to exchange Em's shirts bought too small and do other shopping. I was home before 1 PM.

Ron just called to say there's smoke over by the gazebo, which means somebody's cooking chicken (either Brooks or Giffey's) as fundraising for some cause. That will be our supper tonight. I still have to cook a meatloaf, though, cause the meat needs to be used.

Exercise - Nothing as this writing. Probably I'll do a Leslie Sansone DVD after supper.

Today's weather - A storm was predicted, and it came through. Heavy rain and intense wind. The temp is hovering around the high 60s, and the sun is not to be seen.

Gas prices - Cumberland in Glenmont is $3.659 today.

Weather - Yucky. Damp, chilly, rainy, sunless.

An Ember Day

Today is Monday, but I did Ember today instead of tomorrow because Ron has a doctor appointment tomorrow. Also, my car is going into the garage for its first checkup since leasing.

It was a good day, up until the ride home when exhaustion hit like a brick. The last thing I wanted to do was fix supper, but I am the "inside woman" and I did it. It was easy but created a lot of dishes that couldn't go in the dishwasher.

Exercise - Though I was sooo tired, I still did a half mile walk with a Leslie Sansone DVD.

Today's weather - It started off chilly but warmed up and was sunny all day.

Life lessons -
It's always a good thing to push oneself even when one doesn't want to do it, whatever that may be. I did not want to exercise but am glad I did, though to be honest, I don't feel one bit better!!

The Smell of Fall

I took a walk back to the woods, across the creek and into the cemetery this afternoon. Fall is evident everywhere. Leaves are drying and falling and there is the fragrance of autumn in the air. It always like the change of seasons, especially summer into fall. I makes me excited and think that something wonderful may happen soon.

Late Summer Sunday

More than a week has flown by since last I blogged. In between was Labor Day with a family BBQ; two days with Ember; a day of grocery shopping, etc., in Colonie (including dinner out at a lousy Mexican place); and dinner with “the girls” from Banking. Yesterday we went to a Civil War reenactment in South Westerlo. It was very disappointing.

The usual around-town errands were run as well as the usual cleaning and lots of laundry. I've been computering, reading and knitting, as well as some daydreaming on the swing on the terrace. The sun is definitely a late summer/early fall sun and it makes me more introspective than usual.

Ron has been busy ordering and preparing the sites for the new furnace. Some of the prep includes cleaning out the cellar. This makes me VERY happy!!! Tuesday of next week he’ll dig, or at least start digging, the hole for the tank, which will be delivered Wednesday afternoon.

Below are pictures taken of Ember in the past week or two. At her age she doesn’t change quickly, but I love to see the different expressions and faces she has, all depending on what she’s doing at the moment. When she woke up from her nap Tuesday, I told her Grandma has a headache – a boo boo in her head – so we were going to do quiet things. She promptly pointed out a “blue and black” (pronounced bu and back) on her knee so she offered to kiss my head and then offered me her knee to kiss in return.

Today’s weather – It’s sunny but hot and humid. The weather was hot all last week, with a high of 90 Friday and a lot of rain yesterday due to Tropical Storm Hannah.

Gas prices – They continue to drop, down around $3.739 at the cheaper gas stations.

Exercise – I’ve been treadmilling and/or doing a Leslie Sansone walking DVD. The new DVD is great. Four miles of really fast exercise.

Life lessons – Life can be incredibly sweet by exchanging boo boo kisses with a toddler. I wish kisses could heal all boo boos.
