Busy Times

I haven't posted since Friday. The purpose of my blogging is to keep a record of what I do with my life on an almost-daily basis. Skipping a couple of days isn't daily.

Ron and I have been very busy. Saturday we went to a wake for the sister of Ron's cousin-in-law. She was in her early 70s and had died suddenly. It was really sad because she was the second sister sibling among six or seven siblings to have died in less than a year.

Saturday evening we went to the annual dinner meeting of Columbia-Greene Trout Unlimited. It wasn't as boring as I feared, and the buffet dinner was quite nice.

Sunday morning we drove to Watertown to visit Maureen. Her intestinal surgery on the previous Tuesday requires her to be hospitalized 7 to 10 days post-op. Luckily, between Saturday and Sunday, she had improved quite a bit and was in the mood, and had the energy, for company. Tom, of course, had been visiting her every day, all day, but there really is nothing like another woman to talk to, especially if that woman is your sister. My anticipated visit of 20 to 30 minutes ran to 90 minutes. After some shopping and dinner, we returned for another 40 minutes and then headed to their house.

Today - Monday - we visited for about 30 mintues and then started the 4-hour trip home. I'm really glad we made the effort and took the time for the visit.

Today's weather - It was cold and windy up north. For the most part the sky was sunny on our drive home, but there were huge clouds that occasionally obscured the sunlight.

Life lesson - Modern medicine is more a miracle than not. For all the problems that may abound -- that certainly do occur -- my sister, who has been very ill since Novemer, will be completely well, instead of facing a life of illness and perhaps an early death.
