Miscellaneous Stuff: Doctor, Ember, Our Week

Wow, it's been a long time since I've written. It's been a crazy busy week.

Monday, I had a doctor appointment in Albany.
Tuesday, I took care of Ember.
Wednesday, I drove to Colonie for shopping and then met "the girls" for dinner in Latham.
Thursday, Ron had a doctor appointment in Albany
Tomorrow, Ron has another doctor appointment in Albany

Doctor stuff is crazy. Up until this year, I personally went to the doctor twice a year: for an annual physical and a six-month checkup on blood work (cholesterol) and blood pressure. I also went to the dentist twice a year. Of course, I got sick in Janaury and have had two doc appointments relating to that. Then x-rays at my teeth cleaning two weeks ago showed I have a cavity under an old filling. Damn!

Ron's doctor appointment today was with the nephrologist. Ron's kidneys function at only 30 percent, give or take, so he sees the kidney doc every three to four months, and in between visits, has regular blood work to check on creatinine levels. Unfortunately, the results on the blood drawn last week show that his creatinine levels are up. This is not good. It could be a fluke. It could be serious. He went to the lab after the doc appointment to have more blood drawn. We find out the results next week.

In the meantime, Ron's been slowly recovering from the fall he had last week. Two days ago he was able to lay down and get up from the bed without my arm to hold on to. Yesterday he was able to lay on his right side in bed, instead of just his back. He also did some electricial work on Kevin's house. Today he did half the driving on our Albany trip, helped with grocery shopping and carried in stuff when we got home. It exhausted him, though, so I drove home and he napped.

Ember had her 2-year checkup yesterday. She cried from the moment she walked in the waiting room until she got back in the car. Michele said it was her drama queen cry. The "poor me" with "that" face she gets. Em's healthy! She's 36.5 inches tall and 32.5 pounds, both of which are 95 percentile on the charts. The pediatrician said that he thinks Em is the only toddler in his practice who has never been to him for illness -- ever. She's never had an ear infection. Never had a cold. Never had all the things that toddlers can get. Maybe she's like her daddy. He was never sick either.

I had dinner with my buddies from Banking last night. When I retired almost four years ago, we promised that we'd meet for dinner the first Wednesday of every month. There are few months when at least three of us haven't gotten together until this past winter. Last night was the first time we got together since December. Right now, I'm the only retiree. Deb joins the ranks next month. Linda is just 50 and Karen is just 41, so they have quite a few years to go. As usual, we had a good time. I love those women. They are the best.

Today's weather - Today has been beautiful!!! It is sunny. It is warm (58 degrees). There is no wind. Spring is definitely in the air.

Life changes - Again, just when one thinks it's safe to breath and not worry about health issues -- Ron's in particular -- something crops up. We will handle whatever comes along because we do. There are no other choices.
